Management Challenges: Successfully Navigating Difficult Conversations and Documenting Performance
Human nature is what it is. We tend to avoid confrontations. We tend to believe problems will go away on their own. Having uncomfortable conversations at work is never easy, whether it’s with subordinates or co-workers. This is especially true for people who are afraid of conflict and would do anything possible to avoid it. As important as it is to have those difficult conversations, it’s equally important to document them. We trust our memories more than we should. We tend to remember negative encounters more than positive encounters – but in either case, the details fade with time. Participants will learn skills needed to confront staff about their work performance and behavior in a constructive way, and then accurately document those difficult conversations.
