What does a gender-equal world look like to you?
Is it a world free of bias and stereotypes? Is it a place where discrimination does not exist, and everyone has equal rights to be and do whatever they put their mind to? This would result in being surrounded by diversity, equity, inclusivity, and belonging (DEIB). Together, we can collectively embrace equity and forge a path to such a place. International Women’s Day celebrates women’s achievements while urging action.
“The women of today are the vision and thoughts of their mothers and grandmothers, embodied and made alive.”
Matilda Joslyn Gage
Magda Chavez, a management consultant at Public Knowledge® (PK) shared the above quote by Matilda Gage. The essence explains how we would not be where we are today without the hard work of women in our past. And their actions allow us the space to be our authentic selves.
Sara Melendez, management consultant and PK DEIB Facilitator, shared a quote representative of how challenging showing up as yourself can be. Yet, we must embrace equity and cause transformation entirely.
“Sometimes just being yourself is a radical act. When you occupy space in systems that weren’t built for you, your authenticity is activism. “
Elaine Welteroth
When celebrating International Women’s Day this month, we encourage you to “occupy space” and show up as your “authentic selves.” The world deserves to see your vibrance, and the light you create will help us all embrace equity.
Embrace equity by sharing a story, an inspirational quote, or taking a photo of an embrace. See how you can participate in this year’s International Women’s Day campaign. Accompany it with #pkembraceequity and #internationalwomensday to inform others and build awareness.
