Linda Rhyne-McKinley Co-Facilitates NCSEA On Location Podcast on Leading Change in Child Support

Exploring how leadership can address systemic racism and strengthen programs to better serve families.

Changing how we lead begins with changing how we talk about equity. Child support expert Linda Rhyne-McKinley of Public Knowledge® co-facilitated a two-part episode of the NCSEA On Location podcast, No Blame, No Shame: Real Conversations, alongside Tim Lightner of eWorld Enterprise Solutions Inc. They led an honest and thought-provoking discussion with Dr. B. Jo Ann Mundy of ERACCE and members of the National Child Support Engagement Association (NCSEA) Board of Directors, including Erin Frisch, Charles Smith, Connie Chesnik, Carla West, Chris Wood, and Sharon Pizzuti.

Understanding Systemic Racism in Child Support

The conversation reflected on the NCSEA Board’s two-and-a-half-day retreat in Detroit, Michigan, last year. The retreat was designed to go beyond a “check-the-box” approach, creating space for open dialogue about systemic racism within the child support program. The purpose was to strengthen leadership and expand awareness so that the board could do its part in building a program that serves every family with care and dignity.

Embracing New Perspectives and Growth

Linda entered the training expecting a familiar experience. Instead, she described it as engaging and honest. “I was completely overjoyed that new information, a different perspective of things, and I was glad,” Linda reflected.

She especially valued the informal, respectful conversations with her peers.

“Having the opportunity to come in and have informal conversations with people I truly respect and admire, and to welcome each person’s experience, was meaningful.”

This two-part podcast series with NCSEA On Location captures the spirit of that retreat and the ongoing work to address systemic racism and create a more equitable child support system.
