Unintended Bias and Cultural Competence Course Now Offered Virtually for Child Support Professionals
SILVER SPRING, MD., August 27th, 2020 – SLI Government Solutions (SLI) through the Center for the Support of Families (CSF) is pleased to announce the new online course “Unintended Bias, and Cultural Competence” made specifically for child support professionals. As a highly demanded course that has been traditionally delivered in-person, this online version is a custom-designed engaging multimedia learning experience that uses scenarios common in the child support program along with multi-choice questions to test retention.
Offering courses such as this online has been a goal of SLI’s for a while. We are excited that CSF has been able to translate one of their most popular courses to this new format and look forward to increasing the knowledge about this critical topic to child support professionals everywhere,” expressed SLI Government Solutions CEO, Steve Esposito.
Fostering cultural competence is essential to everyone, both personally and professionally. The topics discussed in the “Unintended Bias and Cultural Competence” course help the learner see the impact of unintended bias on child support cases and parents in the program while also promoting cultural confidence to address those biases and advance the child support program. Specific topics include:
- The unconscious tendency toward bias that all humans have inherited through millennia of human development and enculturation
- Explore specific types of bias with realistic child support scenarios
- Discuss the impacts of bias in the lives of everyday people
- Cultivate practices to improve child support programs with proven strategies
The “Unintended Bias and Cultural Competence” will be available to child support programs in October 2020.
