How PK Service Hours further connection in our communities.
Public Knowledge® (PK) management consultant Kate Thieda demonstrated her commitment by dedicating her PK Service Day to two inspiring initiatives. These initiatives included the “Share Your Holiday” program and the Girls on the Run (GOTR) of the Triangle Reindeer Romp 5K.
We are committed to being a catalyst for change. Also, our vision is to leave every person, project, client, colleague, and community better than when we started. This vision comes to life through our PK Service Hours program. It empowers our people to support causes they are passionate about.
Supporting Local Families in Durham, NC
Kate volunteered with her wife, Annette, at the distribution center for the “Share Your Holiday” program, sponsored by the Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center. Social workers from Durham County DSS nominate families on their caseloads to be “adopted” for Christmas, and sponsors sign up to provide gifts.
Kate helped manage incoming donations and coordinated with social workers who delivered these gifts to over 900 families comprising 2,300 individuals. Her work illustrates that all acts of kindness can have a lasting impact, leading to more meaningful connections within the community.
Empowering Girls at the Reindeer Romp 5K
Kate and Annette volunteered at the Girls on the Run (GOTR) of the Triangle Reindeer Romp 5K. The event celebrated the girls’ season of growth and accomplishment. This organization serves over 1,600 girls across five counties, where Kate serves as the vice chair of the GOTR-Triangle board. She and her wife have been involved since 2013.
With over 50 percent of participants receiving scholarships, the program ensures accessibility to all. Kate’s dedication at the event demonstrates how PK Service Hours enable us to live our values. By supporting transformative programs like GOTR, we encourage empowerment, resilience, and a stronger community.
Inspiring Action Through Service
Our PK Service Hours are a way for our people to give back to our respective communities. Additionally, they allow us to embody and operationalize our mission to be a catalyst for change.
