Black History Month celebrates and highlights the contributions of Americans descended from African ancestry. While it provides an opportunity for reflection and education on the history of enslavement and the resulting struggle with adversity and racism, it also spotlights notable African American contributions to the American story. Black History Month invites us into conversations that increase awareness, and understanding and change perspectives based on the lived expertise of Black Americans.
